Employee at South Carolina health care facility accused of assaulting patient, police say

An employee at an Upstate health care facility has been arrested after being accused of assaulting a patient, according to the Laurens Police Department. Laurens police said, on July 17, they were told about an assault by an employee on a 79-year-old patient vulnerable adult at NHC Healthcare Laurens on Pinehaven Street Extension. Police said due to the serious nature of the offense, detectives called for assistance from the Attorney General’s Office for this investigation.On Tuesday, Ursula Marie Davis of Clinton was arrested and charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult, according to police. The victim, who is in good condition, has been removed from NHC and is currently in the care of family members, police said. “Be assured that your Laurens Police Department aggressively and thoroughly investigates every case that we receive,” a news release from the police said. “We believe however, that cases such as this, where a vulnerable person who cannot fend for themselves and is in the care of others is the victim of an assault, we will leave no stone unturned to assure that the victim is served and that the perpetrator of an offense as egregious as this, is perpetrated to the full extent.”Although an arrest has been made, police said the case is ongoing and is still an active investigation.
